Man! Before I started Social Media Marketing, I thought of Social media marketing as a place to post pictures, comments, videos to sell and or promote things. What I didn’t realize is how many strategies and data go into posts, videos, engagement, etc. Also, how much goes into the research!
Social media marketing is a process, a way of thinking that involves identifying opportunities for leveraging social interactivity amount consumers in open and flexible social media environments with fast-paced flows of information.
When considering social media marketing, focus on how marketing activities through a social media presence can create value for companies. This sounds a lot more complex than just posting pictures and videos, wouldn’t you think?!
Social media marketing is all about connecting with your audience or customers and helping them understand your brand better. It is very beneficial to your business growth. Your efforts will produce no results if your story isn’t worth sharing.
Engagement is Essential
Engagement is essential because it lets people know they are engaging with a real person. Social media is about conversations, community, connecting with your followers, and building those relationships. It’s about being honest, authentic, and creating that open dialog. Examples of engagement might be, Likes and Favorites, Comments, Replies, Shares, Clicks, Saves, and Mentions. Engagement is a great way to measure how the content that you are creating is resonating with your audience.
I mean WOW, that just goes to show how much engagement matters. More now than ever!
Goal Setting – What Makes sense for your Business
I learned how important setting clear goals and metrics. Looking at, what do you want to gain from your social media presents? It could be wanting to increase your reach with followers or earn more money, having clearly defined goals and metrics is key. Without having a clear goal in mind, you won’t be able to determine the right direction. You want to start by setting your goals using S.M.A.R.T goal framework, which means your goals should be:
- Specific: The more specific you are with your goals, the easier it will be to set a clear stragegy and expectations.
- Measurable: When you set specific goals, it becomes easier to measure your success.
- Attainable: Making sure your target goal is achievable.
- Relevant: How is your goal going to impact your bottom line?
- Time-bound: Setting realistic deadlines
This is so important! Having the goal down on paper and working towards your goals. The SMART method helps push you further, gives you a sense of direction, and helps you organize and reach your goals.
Social Media Marketing Strategy
Learning as much as possible about your audience is huge! Looking at the group of people who are most likely to be interested in your business. Also, research your competitors. What are your competitors doing on social media? You can gain so much by just looking into what your competitors are doing. What is working well and what things maybe aren’t working so well. Truly doing that competitive analysis. After this, you can perform a SWOT analysis to analyze your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Your competitor may be rocking it on Facebook, however, maybe they don’t have any presence or very minimal on TikTok. That is a perfect opportunity for you to try a new and upcoming platform. What sets you apart, what can make you stand out in the crowd of social media? Keep your customers coming back for more and keep them engaged.
This class was very interesting and I could go on and on about what I learned. I just listed the main topics that really jumped out at me. But, all of it was very informative and helpful. I am excited to try different techniques and platforms. Really keep that consistency and engage. Try new things, see what works and tweak it if I am not seeing the engagement that I want. I enjoy researching and learning about social media, blogging, and expressing our thoughts in a new way. The expert sessions are probably one of my favorite parts and where I learn a lot.
