Social Media Marketing Take Away

Before I had taken this class I thought I had a pretty good idea about social media and some of the marketing strategies, as I see these advertisements regularly in my own social media accounts, but after this class, I have learned there is much more to social media marketing than I could have ever imagined. When I first started working for grocery pick-up it was a business that was still brand new and getting off its feet. At one point I was approached that I needed to advertise to bring in more customers to try and get the business to pick up more. This was the beginning of any marketing I’ve ever attempted. This was not an easy task and I did not have many resources, or a log of guidance. I went with advertising at the door while customers came in, making displays throughout the store, driving around from business to business handing out fliers. Now going through this class, I see many areas where I could have easily improved my marketing strategy. At the time of this, social media was really starting to grow with snap chat becoming very popular at the time. I imagine all the things I could have done with social media and building a report with my customers.

Reading some of the chapters there are processes that go into a social media strategy that I was surprised about. For instance, during the Super bowl, a social media campaign that is launched has a team of people that monitor the responses throughout the game and respond to those that give positivity towards the campaign. Even commercials during the Super bowl have widely become popular and could even be considered a main event as companies strategize to have the most captivating commercials. If there is one thing I could take away from this class, out of the many, I would take away planning as this is so important going into marketing to get it just right. Whatever you decide to put onto social media must be captivating and eye catching, but most importantly represent your purpose. My second take away from this class would be follow through, I have also seen how important it is to be connected with your audience in responding to some of their feedback. After all our consumers are what fuels our companies.

I do not feel an expert into social media marketing by any means, but I am walking away with a much bigger understanding and knowledge base than when I first started this class. There will be many hiccups and questions along the way. Have I learned enough to be successful? Is there such a thing as over marketing? Will I be able to handle the upkeep of social media marketing? Many of my questions are mostly those what if questions and if I can be successful. One thing I would really like to know from my classmates is, has anyone already begun their own social media marketing strategies? If so, has anyone found themselves to be successful in this? What were your greatest challenges? What would you do differently? You can never truly know how your social media marketing strategy will do if you don’t try, and with that said, it’s a big risk and putting oneself out there in a big way. For me, I’ve always been that quieter and more reserved person, so I can already see this being a challenge for me, but one thing I like is a challenge.

  1. Honestly, the first thing that caught my eye was your picture placement. I didn’t even know you could do that till I saw your blog post. Totally caught my eye to read more and I think other people would say the same. Good job!

  2. I completely agree with your feelings of how aspects of marketing can be overwhelming, and unfortunately, I think many people and businesses assume that ‘at-the-door’ advertisements, such as what you experienced, should be an easy method of gaining more customers. Truly, there are so many levels of branding, advertising, and encouraging product awareness, and social media marketing is just one aspect of that. I too don’t feel like a sudden pro after taking this course, but I definitely have a better idea as to how to achieve those steps to success.
